Payments for commissions can be structured using milestones, allowing both clients and creators to manage payments over time rather in a lump-sum.
A milestone represents a specific stage in the commission, such as an initial sketch, line art, coloring, or final delivery. Instead of paying the full amount upfront, clients pay for each milestone as the work progresses.
Once a creator completes a milestone, they can submit it for client approval. The client will then have the option to approve the milestone or request necessary revisions. Only after the client confirms their satisfaction does the payment for that milestone get processed, allowing the project to move forward.
Using milestones is beneficial for both parties. Clients can feel more secure knowing that payments are tied to progress, while creators can be motivated to continue drawing, knowing they are being compensated at each step. If a dispute ever arises, having clear milestone agreements in place helps in resolution as well.
For creators setting up commissions, it’s important to clearly define each milestone in the commission listing so clients understand what to expect. If you have any questions about using milestones, feel free to reach out to hello@commissions.gg or ask in our Discord community!
